Graduate Route Eligibility Requirements 2026
You must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for the UK Graduate Route Visa.
Core Visa Requirements
- You must have completed a UK degree (Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD)
- You must have studied on a valid UK Student Visa (formerly Tier 4)
- Your university must be a licensed Student sponsor (Tier 4 sponsor)
- You must apply from within the UK while your Student Visa is still valid
- You cannot apply if your Student Visa has already expired
Course Eligibility
- Bachelor's degree (BSc, BA, BEng, LLB etc.) — minimum 3 years
- Master's degree (MSc, MA, MBA, LLM etc.) — typically 1 year
- PhD / Doctoral degree (any duration)
- Foundation degrees and some postgraduate diplomas may qualify
- Short courses, professional qualifications and English language courses do NOT qualify
Physical Presence Requirements
- You must have been physically present in the UK to complete your degree
- Distance learning courses completed from outside the UK do NOT qualify
- You must not have studied entirely online without being present in the UK
- Time spent outside the UK during authorized absences is generally acceptable

Immigration Health Surcharge: The IHS must be paid upfront for the full duration of your Graduate Route Visa. This grants full access to the UK NHS. For a 2-year Graduate Route, the IHS is £776 × 2 = £1,552. For a 3-year PhD Graduate Route, it is £776 × 3 = £2,328.
How to Apply for Graduate Route Visa
Complete Your UK Degree
- • Receive official confirmation of degree completion from your university
- • Obtain your final transcript or degree completion letter
- • Ensure you are still in the UK on a valid Student Visa
- • Do NOT leave the UK before applying — you cannot apply from outside

Graduate Route Cannot Be Extended
The Graduate Route is a one-time, fixed-duration visa. It cannot be renewed or extended under any circumstances.
Apply Before Student Visa Expires
You must apply for the Graduate Route while your Student Visa is still valid. If your visa expires before you apply, you are not eligible.
Must Apply from Inside UK
Unlike many other visas, the Graduate Route MUST be applied from within the UK. You cannot apply from India or any other country.
Dependant Restrictions
If your dependants were not permitted under your Student Visa (post-January 2024 rule), they may not be able to join you on Graduate Route either.
Online Study Does Not Qualify
If your entire degree was completed online from outside the UK, you are not eligible for the Graduate Route Visa.
